Peach cobbler is a classic southern dessert but it can be made with just about any fruit at any time of year. This particular recipe is a great starting point or base that you can use to start experimenting with different flavors and types of fruit.
Why should you make this recipe:
- Well, it starts with butter, so there’s that. lol
- From start to finish, this can be on the table in under 30 minutes
- Use whatever fruit you have on hand; fresh, canned or whatever, it all works
- The 6 ingredients are probably already in your house
Ideas for customizing this recipe:
- Add some cinnamon or a little nutmeg for a more complex flavor profile; a teaspoon of cinnamon and a half teaspoon of nutmeg for this quantity cobbler should be a good place to start
- Try fruit combinations; blueberry and strawberry, peach and apple, blackberry strawberry, be creative with what’s in season
- Replace half of the flour with instant rolled oats for an even heartier dessert similar to a crisp or buckle
- Add in a half teaspoon of vanilla or your favorite flavor extract to the mix
Serving classic Peach Cobbler:
- This cobbler is great as it is, but when served hot with Vanilla Bean ice cream on top, it’s divine!
- Bake this in jumbo muffin tins for easy individual servings
- Let cool and refrigerate, so that you can bring this to a barbecue or gathering; it’s outstanding served cold
Tools needed to make this dessert:
- Nothing fancy or specialized is really needed for this recipe; out of habit I always cook it in my Great Grandmother’s cast iron Dutch Oven. This is completely optional, but you can melt the butter right in the iron and save on dishes
- A pie plate or even muffin tins will work for this but you will definitely have to adjust your baking time down a bit
- This is most traditionally made in a 10″ cast iron skillet (which doubles as a pizza pan😉), so if you have one use it!
